Del Potro Arrives

This year's US open saw the unexpected champion in Del Potro. Clearly nobody expected Del Potro to beat Nadal and Fed in two consecutive days. This event is significant in that it could be real beginning of the end of the Federer era. This victory was akin to what Safin did to Pete Sampras nearly a decade ago at the same event.

Its not difficult interpreting Del Potro's game. His backhand is consistent but two of his biggest strengths are his serve and the forehand. Though prone to errors, he still has probably the most lethal forehand in the men's game today. He takes it early and gives it a rip and when he does he get it right, it works big time as we saw in the match against Nadal.

What does this defeat do to Fedex. The good thing is that Federer still had a remarkable year and its not over yet. Federer is still playing great as opposed to the beginning of the year. The worrying thing was the way he lost the finals. Federer is a great front runner, and its very rare that Federer gives away the match starting off the way he did. Does he still have the desire to win and continue playing to meet the high standards he sets each time would be the biggest question all Fedex fans would be looking to have answered.
